If you missed the General Interest Meeting, panic! You completely ruined your chances and now there is nobody to save the world! Buuuut if you check out our blog (here) and start attending our meetings (here), there may still be some hope for you (and the world).

The Story of Stuff Discussion
The Eco-Reps of Tilton and Haskell Halls are having a discussion on this year's freshman assigned reading book,The Story of Stuff, which analyzes the life-cycle of material goods. Even if you have not read the book, you are welcome to join; it is a very eye-opening and important document in the case for industrial and technological life cycle assessment, and cradle-to-grave solutions. Check out the event here.
ADDITIONALLY, the Eco-Reps program is looking for new Eco-Reps to join their team for the Spring 2013 semester, as some of the current Reps will be going abroad. If you want a opportunity to work with faculty and students on promoting sustainability in our daily lives, apply! Application and info here.

Corn Shucking
This week in the dining halls is Harvest Food Week! The dining centers are celebrating the wonderful locally-sourced food throughout the harvest season. There will be vendors visiting, fun events, sampling, and tons of local food in Carmichael and Dewick all week.
One of the big events dining hosts is a corn shuck. Normally, dining pays a premium for pre-shucked corn, since the job is labor intensive. This week, they opt for fresher and local non-shucked corn, have student volunteers shuck the corn, and then serve it for dinner. They save about $.25 per ear this way, and the saved money is donated to the student garden to help Tufts food initiatives!
Sign up to shuck corn here; the event is this Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11:50am in Dewick or 1:20pm in Carmichael. All volunteer shuckers get a FREE LUNCH in the dining hall!

|
In early October, the Aidekman Arts Center will be hosting a terrific set of sustainability-related workshops. These include an Urban Homesteading Workshop, where you can learn how to make non-toxic cleaning products; a Pickling Workshop, where you get to pickle anything and everything; and an Urban Foraging Walking Tour, where you can find and eat wild plants in the area.
TSC has 10 spaces reserved at each of these workshops, so if you are interested in attending, let us know ASAP! These slots are first come, first serve. If you don't get a spot but really want to attend a workshop, email Hanna Swartz to reserve a spot.
